George Lilanga: Die Türen von Nyumba ya Sanaa

Aus George Lilanga’s umfangreichem künstlerischen Schaffen stechen acht geschnitzte sogenannte Türen heraus, die Lilanga 1982 für das weltbekannte Kunsthaus Nyumba ya Sanaa in Dar es Salaam / Tansania gefertigt hat und die er selbst mit zu seinen besten Arbeiten zählt.

Die aufwändig restaurierten Türen wurden 2011 vor dem Verlust gerettet und 2012 in der dem Künstler gewidmeten und international beachteten Solo-Ausstellung „George Lilanga: Inside…Africa…Outside“ in Hamburg / Deutschland im Rahmen der Hamburg Art Week gezeigt.

Die Darstellungen und Motive der Türen liefern einen tiefen Einblick in die Geister-Mythologie der Makonde.

George Lilanga: The Doors of Nyumba ya Sanaa

From George Lilanga’s extensive artistic life work, eight carved so-called doors shine out, which he has created in 1982 for the world-famous art house Nyumba ya Sanaa in Dar es Salaam / Tanzania and which he has counted to some of his best artworks ever.

The lavishly restored doors were saved in 2011 and exhibited in 2012 in Hamburg / Germany during the internationally heeded tribute to the artist solo exhibition “George Lilanga: Inside…Africa…Outside" as part of the Hamburg Art Week.

The portrayals and motives of the doors reveal a deep insight into the spirit mythology of the Makonde people.
